Tucked among the tall grasses and live oaks, this peaceful fishing pond at Abilene State Park offers a quiet refuge for visitors looking to slow down and soak in the beauty of West Texas. On calm mornings, the glassy surface mirrors the sky and shoreline, inviting anglers and nature lovers alike to pause and appreciate the simple joys of the outdoors.
We are on a mission to visit as many Texas State Parks as possible—so far, we’ve hiked more than 16 parks, and our goal is to explore as many as we can. Each park brings a new adventure and a deeper appreciation for the diverse landscapes across our state. At Abilene, moments by the pond offer reflection, connection, and a reminder of why we keep going back to the trails.
Abilene State Park is full of surprises—shady campsites, accessible nature trails, wildlife viewing, and spaces where memories are made season after season.
