Artist's Description

At Abilene State Park, my mother paused in front of a historic marker enclosed by a red iron fence, shaded beneath sprawling oaks. The site stands as a quiet tribute to the people and stories that shaped this region of Texas. We were drawn to it not just for its visual charm, but for the sense of reverence it evokes — a reminder that every state park holds more than natural beauty; it also holds memory.

Hiking here isn’t just about the trails and trees. It’s about learning, honoring, and standing still long enough to listen to the past. This moment reminded me how Texas state parks preserve both the land and the legacy.

About Brigitte Blanchette Thompson

Brigitte Blanchette Thompson

Discover the Beauty of Texas and Beyond. My name is Bigitte Blanchette Thompson, a freelance photographer based in Austin, Texas, specializing in landscape, nature, and outdoor photography. My passion for photography was shaped by years of hiking and exploring over 21 Texas state parks with my daughter and 85-year-old mother. My portfolio includes photography from Germany, Mexico, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico,...
