Description
At Mother Neff State Park, one of Texas’s oldest state parks, my mother pauses at a stone overlook built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Surrounded by towering oak and juniper trees, she stands quietly, soaking in the peaceful beauty that has drawn visitors here for generations.
This park holds a special place in our hearts, not just for its rich history but for the feeling of timelessness it offers. Hiking alongside my mother through these trails reminds me that adventure does not have an age, and neither does wonder.
Her sturdy walking stick, her backpack packed for the day, and the determined spark in her eye are all part of the spirit that has carried us across so many Texas state parks over the years. Every trail we walk together is another chapter in our family’s story — and Mother Neff, with its quiet strength and lasting beauty, is a perfect place for it to unfold.
